Troy won’t announce a starting quarterback

Troy will not announce a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game with Florida International, offensive coordinator Neal Brown said Wednesday morning. He said he and head coach Larry Blakeney came to the agreement after three days of practice where junior Levi Brown and sophomore Tanner Jones split reps.

“I’ve got a plan, and I know what I’m going to do, but we’re not going to announce it,“ Neal Brown said. “We don’t want (FIU) to know, and I’m fine with that. We’ve got a plan in place and we’ll roll with it, starting today.“

Troy (3-2, 2-0 Sun Belt) plays FIU (3-3, 2-0) Saturday at 6 p.m. in its conference home opener.

Drew’s thoughts - That’s much better than saying “We’ve got two good ones, but we don’t know who we’re going to go with yet.“ Coaches like to keep some suspense out there.
