This week

For the daily readers, if you don’t see any updates this week it’s because I’m taking some vacation days. Visiting relatives in Mississippi and the wife’s a bridesmaid in a wedding in her hometown of Boaz later in the week. Therefore, I might not even see a working computer.

We won’t stop covering Troy, though. Mr. Dependable Ken Rogers is scheduled to write a Troy baseball feature for Thursday’s paper. We’ve got a lot of high school teams playing for state championships in baseball and softball this week, so it’s a hectic week.

Sunday baseball update

Troy falls at ULM, 8-5. The loss means Troy can’t win the SBC regular season title. ULM finishes its portion of the Sun Belt schedule at 20-10, and Troy already has 11 losses. The SBC title will come down to New Orleans and ULM, and the Privateers control their own destiny.

Troy hosts UAB Tuesday and South Alabama Thurs-Sat. to close out the regular season.

From The News-Star in Monroe, read about Troy’s pounding of ULM in baseball yesterday.

Believe it or not, Troy still has a chance to win the overall SBC title, but the Trojans must win today. In that case, they would have to win two more games than UNO over the last four. UNO plays at UALR and at UL-Lafayette.

So, if Troy wins out today and sweeps South Alabama at home - possible with the way they’ve been swinging the bats - and UNO loses 2 of 3 next weekend at ULL, Troy will be conference champions.

I think I’m doing my math right.

Inside today’s Dothan Eagle, Ken Rogers saw 13 innings of sotball followed by 14 innings of baseball.

The first one is Troy’s loss to North Texas in the SBC Tournament, the second is Charles Henderson in the Class 5A Semifinals. If you like college softball, ULM and ULL are battling for the SBC tournament title and NCAA bid at 3 p.m. at Troy’s softball complex.

As for me, I drove 64 miles to Brantley and 64 miles back, and I’ll have to go back again today for Game 3 between Providence Christian and Brantley.

I came home to find out about Troy’s big baseball win over UL-Monroe. That gamer comes from the News-Star in Monroe.

Let’s see if Troy can take a road series. Troy’s in 3rd place in the Belt and could overtake ULM this weekend and next, should it win out. The problem will be New Orleans, which is in second place and playing at a crappy UALR squad. Troy had one loss to UALR earlier this year that definitely didn’t help.

Troy eliminated

May 09, 2008

Looks like North Texas eliminated Troy in the SBC softball tournament, hosted by Troy.

I think Ken Rogers was there covering it this morning, so we’ll have game coverage. Regardless, it was a disappointing tournament for the host Trojans. Most of the team is back next year with some good newcomers, so I figure they’ll be in the hunt again in 2009.
