Some FAU reading
November 25, 2007
If you’re interested, FAU has a couple of beat writers with blogs. Here is one from the Sun-Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale) beat writer Ted Hutton.
Here’s one from the Palm Beach Post and beat writer Marcus Nelson.

From reading the crawl on ESPN, Memphis has accepted the invite to go to the New Orleans Bowl. Personally, I’m glad it’s not Southern Miss. Seems I’m so used to Troy and USM playing each other (in baseball) that it will be nice to see a new team assuming I make a weeklong trip to New Orleans again this year.
If Florida Atlantic loses to Florida International tonight, Troy’s in automatically. Thing is, FAU leads FIU 21-3 in the first quarter. Think the 0-10 team can fight back? Nah.
Troy basketball lost again, this time 97-92 at Georgia State. Fell way behind early and made a game of it. What’s wrong with that? Georgia State had scored 63, 49 and 48 points in its first three games—all losses.
Looks like Jarvis Acker didn’t play, so I guess he didn’t get cleared. I’ll see what I can find out on that during the early part of the week. It gets much harder for Troy with a Tuesday night trip to Ole Miss and a Saturday trip to Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, an NCAA Tournament participant a year ago (remember, they almost beat 2-seed Wisconsin).

From us, read Jon Johnson’s column on Troy shining bright on center stage, my game story (must apologize for a careless error or two on my part in there, but I won’t tell you where it is), Jon’s game notes, and my sidebar on R.J. Roberts. Anyone know who he is? You should after last night.
From the Daily News Journal, there was no happy ending to MTSU’s season, Troy had the edge, the kicking game struggled, and some notes.
On the basketball note, Troy got stomped at Utah Valley State. That’s a gamer from one paper. Here’s another. gamer from another paper.
Not sure I know what happened last night, but I’m not surprised. A bunch of grown men beat a bunch of boys after they got off a long plane ride. Troy might could do the same on Jan. 5 when they come to Troy, but they need to get a lot better before then.
I’m taking a few days off for Thanksgiving - visiting family, etc., so I won’t be able to update the blog until the weekend. Troy’s hoops team plays at Georgia State, and they badly need to win that one because GSU isn’t very good this year. I won’t be able to do a basketball preview, but will predict a Troy 71-59 win because GSU isn’t as good offensively.
We’ll see how it all turns out. Happy Thanksgiving!

Troy clinches co-championship but needs to beat FAU outright on Dec. 1 to go to the bowl. Troy also goes to the bowl if FAU loses to winless FIU this weekend.
Receiver Josh Allen left the game with an ankle injury but x-rays revealed no fracture. Just a sprain, and he is expected to recover for the FAU game.
Here at the game. 16:12 till kickoff. I’ll update this post with game scores, injuries, etc., unless ESPN tells me that I can’t.
. The crowd isn’t very good, now 10:14 before kickoff, but I can’t see the bottom 1/4 of the stands below the press box. I guess it could get better, but if you’re watching at home, pray for no crowd shots just yet.
AFTER ONE QUARTER: Troy leads 10-7 on a 41 FG from Whibbs and a 5-yard TD from Omar to Banks. MTSU got an 8-yard TD reception from Joe Craddock to Stephen Chicola, who was mobbed by teammates after the score and acted like he had set some sort of record. You’d think he had never scored a TD before, but in fact he’s scored the last two times Troy and MTSU has played I do believe. Then again, I did some celebrating in my last intramural flag football game in college so it’s all in good fun.
7:15 left in the 2nd quarter and Troy has two big special teams plays - a blocked punt by RJ Roberts and a recovery of a muffed punt. Crowd has gotten a lot better, so credit the Troy fans for that.
HALFTIME - Troy leads 24-7. An injury note, wide receiver Josh Allen was helped to the locker room at the end of the half. He didn’t put any pressure on one of his legs, so it doesn’t look real good. Best case scenario would be a high ankle sprain, but they don’t usually carry you to the locker room for that.
Troy just went up 38-7 in the third. If you want a basketball gametracker go to Utah Valley State’s schedule site and click on the Troy game. 26-18 UVSU now.
