Judge hands down sentencing guidelines for Scrushy, Siegelman

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—After hearing several hours of testimony and objections from both sides, Judge Fuller determined a set of sentencing guidelines for former Gov. Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy.

For Siegelman, his prison sentence will fall somewhere between 121 and 151 months, with a supervised release period of two to three years per count and a fine range of anywhere from $17,500 to $175,000.

Scrushy’s sentence is somewhat less than Siegelman’s, despite Fuller’s determination that Scrushy played an organizer/leader role in the ordeal. He could receive anywhere from 97 to 121 months in prison, but with the same supervised release period of two to three years per count. He could be fined anywhere from $15,000 to $150,000.

The proceedings have now entered the character witness phase. It’s expected that the actual sentences for both men will be handed down sometime Thursday or possibly even Friday.
