Retrace the end of segregation and America’s acceptance of equal rights at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Permanent exhibits include replicas of a mine entrance, segregated streetcar, newspaper office, “shotgun” house, classroom and church. The Museum also offers visitors several educational galleries, like the Confrontation Gallery which highlights the culture of violence that ensued, particularly in Birmingham, after the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling. The Human Rights Gallery demonstrates on an international scale, the range of the Human Rights movement. The Gallery also has four mini-theaters where guests can watch short-films such as Bus Ride to Freedom, a video shown in a mini-theater constructed inside of a burned-out bus.
