The statistic is not surprising. After all, in this region alone one can travel a short distance and see a number of professional baseball games. In 1885, the Birmingham Barons (originally the “Coal Barons”) were born. The Barons, a AA Southern League team and Chicago White Sox affiliate, currently play ball at Regions Park in Birmingham.
