With four venues and LOTS of year-round entertainment, you can’t miss with a visit to the Alys Stephens Center. The Jemison Concert Hall is the largest stage at the Center with 1,330-capacity seating. But it’s not the size of the Concert Hall that’s important— it’s the sound. Few venues can compare with the acoustics in the Jemison. “An acoustical marvel,” says the description on the Center’s Website, “allowing every note and word to be heard perfectly.” The 350-seat, proscenium Sirote Theatre is also housed in the Center and is the venue for some of Birmingham’s best theatrical productions. “Intimacy” is the key word for the 170-seat Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall. “Versatility” characterizes the black-box Odess Theatre, where the space changes dramatically with each performance.
