Syrup Soppin’ Day
Loachapoka, Alabama

Enjoy the social and salutary benefits of Syrup Soppin’ Day in October. A tradition that began in 1972, thousands of people from all over the region flood the small town to sample delicious cane syrup as it is made before their eyes using a traditional technique. The festival also includes a side dish of history as volunteers don traditional, 1880s attire, work traditional looms, and tell stories about a world where there is neither electricity nor water heaters. Plus, more than 100 vendors set up booths at the event to sell items such as funnel cakes, jewelry and arts and crafts.
