Learning is made fun at Columbus State University’s, Oxbow Meadows. Oxbow Meadows is a 1,600-acre nature discovery center located at the Southern end of the Columbus Riverwalk that was once the site of a landfill. The land has been rehabilitated and now features two nature trails, offering an opportunity for outdoor education about the region’s diverse environment — from fauna and flora, to animal species, to the area’s unique geographical attributes. Oxbow Meadows also has a hands-on, interpretive Learning Center where visitors will see a variety of live and mounted animals such as snakes, birds, spiders and even an alligator. The interpretative facility demonstrates the natural and cultural history of the region located along the Chattahoochee River through a variety of exhibits. The Center caters to visitors of all ages and strives to educate the public on environmental issues and create an “outdoor conscience.” Group tours are also available and can be designed to educate on specific topics. Tour program topics include “Reptiles,” “Wetlands and Wonderlands,”
and “Pondering a Pond — Dipping for Aquatic Life.”
