Explore one of the most comprehensive collections of American art in the Southeast at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art. Founded in 1930, the original mission of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art was to promote Alabama artists and the Museum is still true to this mission with over 200 examples of regional artwork. Also at the Museum is The Weil Collection of Old Master Prints. This astounding collection spans from the 15th to the 19th century, one of the most exceptional collections of works on paper in any municipal museum in the country. In addition to its permanent collections, the Museum holds regular exhibitions and learning opportunities throughout the year. Families will love the A Time for Learning program, an educational workshop that is specifically geared for adults and their children. The Docent program is the most intensive and engaging adult-education program offered by the Museum. Through this program, adults are trained by the Museum’s education department to become volunteer Museum educators or “docents.” All that’s required to become a docent is interest, time and enthusiasm. Other community services offered by the Museum include after-school and weekend classes for kids, and numerous festivals throughout the year. The Flimp Festival is perhaps the most popular day of Museum family fun. The Flimp Festival is a one-day, outdoor art celebration in May that includes Kite Flying, a Puppet Show, live entertainment, specialty foods, and lots of creativity, imagination and humor.
