When former art professor Frank Applebee purchased 36 paintings for a mere $1,072 in 1948, many called it the “art bargain of the century.” The collection of paintings represents the works of many American artists including Georgia O’Keefe, John Martin and Romare Bearden, and is now valued at $7 to $10 million dollars.
