Great Pumpkin Carve
202 Dudley Commons Auburn University, Alabama 36849 334.844.4285 www.cadc.auburn.edu On the Friday before Halloween, hundreds of people walk through the courtyard of Dudley Hall on the Auburn University campus to see the results of the Great Pumpkin Carve. The Great Pumpkin Carve is a pumpkin-carving contest sponsored by the Auburn Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students. This 15-year-old tradition begins with an all-day pumpkin-carving party. The public is welcome to join in on the fun and compete for the best-carved pumpkin alongside the Auburn University architecture students. Pumpkin carving ends at 5 p.m., at which point the finished gourds are presented to the public in a ghoulish display of light. In addition to viewing the pumpkins, there is a costume contest for children and refreshments are served. Judging for the Pumpkin Carve begins at 7 p.m. with the winner announced shortly thereafter. When the judging is complete, the carved pumpkins are sold to the public.
