Visit the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains, Georgia, home of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. The Plains site consists of three historic locations with significant meaning for Jimmy Carter. The first is Plains High School, the official “State School of Georgia.” Both Jimmy Carter and his wife attended Plains High School, which has been converted into a commemorative Museum. Inside the high-school Museum, visitors will see multiple films and exhibits describing the path the Carters took from a small town of less than 1,000 people to the White House. The Museum is open daily. Second on the list is Jimmy Carter’s Boyhood Home, a restored farm that features audio exhibits were visitors can listen to recordings of Jimmy Carter as he relates how growing up on the farm influenced who he is as an adult. Lastly, stop by the old Plains Depot, which was the campaign headquarters for Jimmy Carter’s run for President. Inside is a self-guided museum that retells the events surrounding the 1976 Presidential Campaign.
