More than 75,000 people from around the world gather each June in Tuscumbia for the annual Helen Keller Festival. The Festival began in 1979 as a tribute to “America’s First Lady of Courage,” Helen Keller. Today, the event features two days of live entertainment, award-winning artists, athletic events, a parade, and educational opportunities for children and adults alike. Ever wonder what kinds of hurdles those who are blind, deaf or physically challenged face? At the Festival, you will gain a deeper understanding of these barriers and leave with a greater sense of compassion.
