And we’re off!
The 2007 NFL draft got off to a thrilling start: Three picks in the first hour. Hooray.
At this rate, we’re still several hours away from the end of the first round, where I expect Ben Grubbs to be selected. I’m thinking No. 29 (Baltimore), No. 31 (Chicago) or No. 32 (Indianapolis). I’m not an NFL expert by any means—recently departed OA News sports guy Tim Ritter was our in-house Mel Kiper—but I’m pretty sure all three of those teams have free-agent vacancies at guard. We’ll see.
For now, I’ll focus on wondering how my Jaguars will screw up this year’s pick. Last year they picked a tight end who couldn’t block and couldn’t get open…maybe this year it’ll be a defensive end who can’t tackle or an offensive lineman who’s afraid of contact. Good times.
Meanwhile, here at Plainsman Park, Tom Slater’s pitching BP, a minor change in the usual routine. He’s been throwing non-stop for about 25 minutes…I’ve got to say I’m pretty impressed. We’re a little more than 90 minutes before game-time. I’ll update the ol’ blog the next time something interesting happens with the draft. Sadly, the pressbox TV is on mute, which means I’m missing the limitless comedy gold-mine that is ESPN’s draft-day broadcast crew. Good times.
