First preliminaries are over!

Wednesday ended in a big way, with the first preliminaries over. The contestants, who are divided into three competition groups, took to the stage for evening gown, lifestyle and fitness, and talent.

The Lifestyle and Fitness award, commonly referred to as the swimsuit award, went to Miss Capital City, Leah Massee. Ms. Massee attends Valdosta State University and majors in Speech Communication.

The Evening Gown award, which included two onstage questions, belongs to Miss Elliottia, Angela Byrd. She answered one general question and one question about here platform, which is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention. Ms. Byrd is a Broadcasting/Information Emphasis student at Georgia Southern University.

Miss Atlanta, Chasity Hardman is the evening’s talent winner with a vocal performance of “Listen” from the movie “Dreamgirls”.

The Lifestyle and Fitness Award, as well as the Evening Gown award, brings with it a $500 scholarship for each winner. As the preliminary talent winner, Ms. Hardman will receive a $1000 scholarship. For more information on the contestants and the competition, go back to the homepage.

Also at this evening’s competition, a handful of former Miss Georgia winners. The group included Miss Georgia 1969 Marilyn Olley, Miss Georgia 1970 Nancy Carr, Miss Georgia 2004 Danica Tisdale, and Miss Georgia 2005 Monica Pang. They joined Miss Georgia 1998 April Brinson Slaughenhoup on stage. Mrs. Slaughenhoup is co-emceeing the Miss Georgia Pageant with Carlton Leake.
