BEIJING — Auburn University athletes’ successes in the pool at the 2008 Olympic games continued Thursday.

The Auburn soccer team was picked to finish second in the SEC’s Western Division behind 2007 West Champion LSU in vote of the league’s 12 head coaches, it was announced Thursday. 

BEIJING — Earning the final spot in Wednesday night’s final, Cesar Cielo took off out of lane eight and never looked back as the former Auburn swimmer and Brazilian native tied for third in the 100-meter freestyle with a South American Record time of 47.67, earning his first career Olympic medal.

Joe-Joe Petrone, a 25-year veteran with collegiate and NFL experience, has been named Auburn’s Director of Sports Medicine, athletic director Jay Jacobs announced Wednesday.

BEIJING — For the second night in a row, Auburn swimmers earned two medals in the same event at the 2008 Olympic Games on Monday night.

BEIJING, China - Former Auburn swimmer Kirsty Coventry advanced to her third semifinal of the 2008 Olympics on Monday morning as she finished eighth in the preliminary of the women’s 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:12.18.
