Rosalind Council, a former NCAA and SEC champion hurdler for the Auburn track and field team, passed away Monday in her hometown of Carboro, N.C. She was 43 years old.

Auburn newcomers Elkanah Kibet and Girma Mecheso have been named SEC Male Athlete and Freshman of the Week, respectively, following their performances Sept. 5 at the Powerade Invitational.

The Auburn volleyball team (3-4) returns to action today with a 7 p.m. match at in-state rival Troy (4-3).

ATHENS, Ga. — Allison Whitworth made 10 saves Sunday, but none were bigger than two in overtime as she stopped a penalty kick in the 93rd minute and then made a diving save in the 103rd minute as the Auburn soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with No. 5 Virginia at the Turner Soccer Complex.

The No. 9 Auburn women’s golf team will begin its fall season today at the NCAA Fall Preview in Owings Mills, Md., hosted by Georgetown University. The two-day tournament will be played at Caves Valley Golf Course, which is also the site of the 2009 NCAA Championships.

The Auburn volleyball team (0-3) returns to action today as the Tigers travel up the road to Jacksonville State (1-2) for a 7 p.m. match. 

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Auburn thought it had taken the lead with just under six minutes left, but an apparent goal by Caitlin King was negated by an offsides call and Kansas responded with a goal after Auburn was down a player due to cards at the 85:12 mark as Auburn fell at No. 25 Kansas, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Auburn volleyball team fell to 0-3 Saturday as it dropped matches to Mercer (3-1) and New Orleans (3-0) on the final day of the War Eagle Invitational.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri’s Kari Adams scored her first goal of the season off of a corner midway through the second half and Auburn was unable to answer, falling, 1-0, on Friday night at Missouri’s Audrey J. Walton Complex.
