ORANGE BEACH — For the third time in the last four seasons, Tennessee ended Auburn’s run in the SEC Tournament as Auburn fell, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Auburn ninth-ranked women’s tennis player Fani Chifchieva will open play today at the ITA National Indoor Championships at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

Katy Frierson’s breakout season was rewarded Tuesday as she was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Year, First Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team. 

Auburn’s Girma Mecheso claimed the men’s individual 8K title and Holly Knight finished as the women’s 6K runner-up Monday at the Southeastern Conference Championship at the Mississippi State Cross Country Course. 

After losing the first two sets of the match, the Auburn volleyball team (6-19, 1-13 SEC) mounted a comeback against in-state rival Alabama (12-10, 5-8 SEC) that nearly pushed the match to five sets, but fell short in the 3-1 (19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 27-29) loss Sunday at the Student Activities Center.

The No. 11/12 Auburn women’s golf team wraps up its fall schedule this week as the Tigers travel to Reunion, Fla., for the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship.

A balanced offensive attack, along with a .296 team hitting percentage, helped the Auburn volleyball team (6-18, 1-12 SEC) pick up its first SEC victory of the season Friday at the Student Activities Center against Mississippi State (6-18, 1-12 SEC).

The Auburn soccer team seems to have gotten hot at the right time.

The Auburn softball team’s 2009 schedule features non-conference tournaments in Miami and Fullerton, Calif., along with the Tiger Invitational and War Eagle Classic hosted at home and a 14-game home Southeastern Conference slate, announced head coach Tina Deese on Wednesday.

Playing at the Auburn Derby Invitational, the Tiger women’s golf team carded its lowest round of the tournament, coming in with a 6-over-par 294 to finish in fourth place in the three-day event. Auburn’s Candace Schepperle led the team with an even-par 216, finishing fourth overall in the tournament.

Twenty-one Auburn swimmers and divers were named Academic All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America while the Tiger women’s team earned All-Academic Team honors, the association announced last week.
