The Auburn softball team earned the sixth seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament and will take on third-seeded LSU in the first round Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Baton Rouge, La.
The tournament will be held through Saturday at Tiger Park on the campus of LSU. Tickets for the single-elimination tournament can be purchased through the LSU Athletic Ticket Office or online at http://www.lsusports.net.
Auburn finished the regular season 37-19 overall and 13-14 in the SEC, good for third in the SEC’s Western Division. LSU closed the regular season in second place in the SEC West at 41-15 overall and 17-11 in league play.
“We are obviously excited about earning the opportunity to play in the SEC Tournament,” Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. “That is something that we expect of ourselves as a team and a program. We have a big challenge ahead of us in playing LSU down there, but we are going in ready to play and ready to get after it.”
Auburn is 11-35 all-time against LSU, including a 3-5 mark in SEC Tournament play. LSU took three games from the Tigers earlier this season in Baton Rouge and have won seven straight in the series. Auburn is 4-14 all-time in Baton Rouge.
Auburn is making its ninth trip to the SEC Tournament and eighth in the last nine years. The Tigers earned their first trip to the SEC Tournament in 1997 and then went on a run of seven straight tournament appearances from 2000-2006. The Tigers are 10-15 all-time in the SEC Tournament.
