Gymnastics travels for tri-meet
02/07 at 11:52 PM
The No. 15 Auburn gymnastics team will travel to Baton Rouge, La., to take on No. 7 LSU and West Virginia in a tri-meet today at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
“This weekend is a little chance for revenge for us,” said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. “Both of those teams were at the West Virginia site for Regionals last year. West Virginia beat us and LSU advanced to the National Championships. Of course, we have a totally different team now than we did then.”
Auburn meets with the LSU Tigers and Mountaineers coming off a win at N.C. State. The Tigers posted their highest score of the season, 195.950, to defeat host N.C. State, George Washington and Texas Women’s University.
“We had a great road trip on Sunday,” Thompson said. “We are seeing not only physical improvement in how their routines look, but also improvement in our mental game.”
The Tigers return to action at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Feb. 15, to take on the Georgia Gym Dogs at 7 p.m. Admission for adults is $5 and $2 for children. Admission is free for students with a valid ID. Live stats for all home meets are available at http://www.auburntigers.com.
Track heads to South Bend for Meyo Invitational
The Auburn men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back in action when the Tigers participate in the Meyo Invitational today and Saturday in South Bend, Ind. Hosted by Notre Dame, the Meyo Invitational is one of the premier indoor track and field meets of the season.
Today, competition begins at 5 p.m. and continues until close to 10 p.m., while Saturday’s action starts at 8:30 a.m. and concludes a little before
5 p.m.
“This weekend and next weekend is really the meat and potatoes of our season,” said head coach Ralph Spry. “We will be competing at two very good facilities and hope to take advantage of that to record some fast times and get some more national qualifiers. We rested our athletes last weekend and are looking to get good performances out of everyone this weekend. It’s a very competitive meet and we’re really looking forward to it.”
Tennis to host two matches on weekend
After Wednesday’s 7-0 sweep over Troy, the Auburn men’s tennis team (1-0) is ready to hit the court again as the Tigers host Southern Mississippi (1-3) and Arizona State (1-0).
Action begins today with a 1:30 p.m. match against Southern Miss and continues Sunday with a 12 p.m. meeting with the Sun Devils. Both matches will take place at the City of Auburn / Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center.
“We have not played Southern Miss in a couple of years, so it is a little bit of an unknown there,” said head coach Eric Shore. “But, they will be another solid match before we see Arizona State on Sunday, which will be a good test for us as it always is when we play them.”
