Auburn swimmers Cesar Cielo and Caitlin Geary picked up a pair of the SEC weekly swimming and diving honors for the second time this season Tuesday following their performances at Florida last weekend.
Cielo was named the SEC’s Male Swimmer of the Week, while Geary earned SEC Female Freshman of the Week honors.
Cielo, the reigning NCAA Swimmer of the Year, picks up the award for the second time this season after being named SEC Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 15.
The junior from St. Barbara, Brazil helped score 33 points in No. 6 Auburn’s 165-135 win over No. 5 Florida in Gainesville on Saturday.
Cielo broke the 20-second barrier in the 50 free three times during the meet, swimming a converted “A” cut 19.53 in the 50 free and converted anchor relay legs of 19.53 and 19.61 in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, respectively. He also won the 100 free with a converted time of 44.27.
Geary scored 27 points for the top-ranked Tigers in a 165-135 losing effort. The Orlando, Fla. native won all three individual events she competed in, tallying a NCAA automatic time, two “B” cut times and three Olympic Trials cuts.
The Auburn swimming and diving teams return to dual meet action with Senior Day at noon on Feb. 9 at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
The men will take on Florida State in the dual meet, while the women will face FSU and conference rival Arkansas.
