Akins has big day in track season opener

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Auburn mens and womens track and field teams opened the 2008 indoor season Friday evening at the Clemson Invitational. It was the first collegiate competition for several of the young Tigers who made the trip to Clemson, as the Tigers did not bring a full squad to the meet.

Senior Ty Akins had the opening day’s top performance, just missing the NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 60m hurdles while posting the field’s top time in the prelims. Akins overcame a slow start to finish in 7.91 seconds, just .01 off the provisional mark.
