Gymnastics falls at Oklahoma on Friday
NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 11 Auburn gymnastics team fell, 196.750-195.900, to No. 10 Oklahoma on the road Friday night. Auburn’s Lindsey Puckett placed second on two events and Julie Dwyer placed in the top three of bars and took third in the all-around.
“We had a great night hitting 23-out-of-24 routines and really pushed a good Oklahoma team to their limits,” said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. “Once again, we were within three-tenths-of-a-point going into the last rotation and were just unable to keep up with the Sooners on senior night. Once again, we have pushed an opponent to their season high score.”
The Tigers were in a tight race with the Sooners after the first two rotations. Auburn scored 48.875 on bars and 49.150 on vault, totaling 98.025. Oklahoma scored 49.325 on vault and 48.975 for a team score of 98.300.
Lindsey Puckett scored 9.900 on vault, placing second. A.J. Mills placed third scoring 9.875. Dwyer tied for second on bars scoring 9.825.
Following the third rotation, with the Tigers on floor and Sooners on beam, Auburn trailed Oklahoma 147.175-147.425. Auburn scored 49.150 on floor to OU’s 49.125 on beam.
Equestrian drops match to Georgia
The Auburn equestrian team (10-3) was handed its first home loss of the season as Georgia (10-2) defeated the Tigers, 11-7, on Friday.
The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers, 5-4, in Hunt Seat and 6-3 in Western.
“We made too many mistakes today,” said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. “This is uncharacteristic of us, especially at home. Georgia performed well and beat us, but we will not accept this type of performance.”
Georgia won two events and tied another. The Bulldogs took MVP honors in all the events.
