Auburn center Cassie Moore was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday after leading the Auburn women’s basketball team with 17 points in its victory over Mississippi State on Sunday.
In Auburn’s 68-42 win over the Bulldogs, Moore shot 78 percent (7-of-9) for the game en route to turning in a career-high 17 points.
“It was a great game for her and I am really happy that she has been recognized for her efforts,” head coach Nell Fortner said. “I am excited to see how her presence helps open the outside.”
In her 19 minutes of action, Moore also contributed five rebounds and two blocks. She also went a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. As a whole, Auburn was perfect from the free-throw line, making all 10 of its shots.
Auburn (15-6, 3-3 SEC) continues play Thursday at Florida (14-8, 3-4 SEC). Tipoff in Gainesville is slated for 6 p.m.
Five swimmers compete at Crocker Classic
Five Auburn swimmers competed in the Second Annual Ralph Crocker Classic over the weekend in the James E. Martin Aquatics Center, posting a NCAA automatic qualifying time and three “B” cut times.
Freshman Micah Martindale was the top Tiger in the three-day event, posting an “A” cut 16:13.78 in the 1,650 free, setting her season-best time by more than 20 seconds.
Fellow freshman Julie Golden also had a good weekend, swimming “B” cut times in the 200 back (2:00.15) and 200 free (1:50.17). She also swam in the 100 back, posting a season-best time of 57.11.
Junior Blakeley Bunch also picked up a NCAA provisional cut, coming in at 4:20.67 in the 400 IM.
Others competing this weekend were juniors Kara Nelson and John Snyder. Nelson swam in the 50 free (25.74), 200 fly (2:02.92) and 100 fly (55.67), while Snyder competed in the 200 IM (1:57.10), 100 breast (1:00.61), 400 IM (4:17.99) and 200 breast (2:10.86).
The Auburn swimming and diving teams return to action this weekend with their final home meet of the season. The fifth-ranked men’s team will take on Florida State while the fifth-ranked women’s team will match up against No. 22 Florida State and Arkansas.
Auburn’s seniors will be honored with a Senior Day ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m. with the meet following at noon in the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
