Four Auburn track and field athletes were in action during the final weekend of competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.

Though all four reached the finals in their respective events, none of the four were able to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Cory Martin had the best finish, placing sixth in the men’s hammer throw, while Auburn teammate Jacob Dunkleberger was not far behind in eighth place in that event.

Martin had a top throw of 71.64 meters (235-0), and was less than two meters short of the third-place finisher. Martin had five marks over 71 meters but was unable to get to 72 meters.

Dunkleberger had a best throw of 68.90 meters (226-0), which came on his fifth of six attempts.

In the men’s 110-meter hurdles final on Sunday evening, Ty Akins finished seventh with a disappointing time of 13.82 seconds after stumbling over the final two hurdles. Akins reached the final by advancing through three rounds, including a fourth-place finish in his semifinal heat earlier Sunday with a time of 13.26. That time would have been fourth in the final, just .01 behind the third-place finisher.

Auburn’s final competitor during the weekend was rising senior Raevan Harris, who finished 10th in the women’s high jump final. Harris cleared both 1.79 meters (5-10.5) and 1.84 (6-0.5) meters on her second attempts, but was unable to clear 1.89 meters (6-2.25), which would have been a personal best.
