Former Auburn All-American Maurice Smith will join three other former Tigers on Jamaica’s 51-member track and field squad named by the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association on Tuesday for the Olympic Games in Beijing next month.
Smith, the silver medalist in the decathlon at the 2007 World Championships, will join Kerron Stewart (100, 200, 4x100 relay), Vonette Dixon (100 hurdles) and Sanjay Ayre (400) as former Tigers on the Jamaican team.
The decathlon was not contested at the Jamaican Olympic Trials last weekend, but Smith needed only to compete in one event to be eligible for Jamaica’s Olympic squad. He placed third in the shot put at the meet.
