MINNEAPOLIS — Auburn’s Ava Ohlgren won her third medal of the meet Saturday as the rising junior finished second in the 200m individual medley at the U.S. Open.
Ohlgren, a native of Northville, Mich., finished second in the 200m IM with a time of 2:13.72, trailing Arianna Kukors and her meet record time of 2:11.53. By earning the silver in the event, it marks the third medal of the week for Ohlgren after she won the bronze in the 200m butterfly and gold in the 400m IM.
Ohlgren returned to the pool later in the meet as she also competed in the 50m freestyle. She finished 20th overall in the event by finishing fourth in the C Final with a time of 26.18. Also competing in the 50m free was Emile Ewing. The rising senior placed 29th overall after clocking a time of 26.38 in the preliminary.
Also in action on Saturday were a pair of swimmers from Auburn’s men’s team. Rising sophomore Robert Looney led the pair as he finished 14th in the 800m freestyle with a time of 8:17.36.
Rounding out the Auburn contingent was rising sophomore Andrew Mithcell. He earned a spot in the 200m IM C Final and finished 22nd overall in the event with a time of 2:06.58.
The 2008 U.S. Open was the last major swimming event prior to the Olympic Games in Beijing. Twelve current and former Auburn swimmers, along with four future Tigers, are set to compete at the Olympics.
