Auburn’s Gaby Beelen was named the women’s tennis Freshman of the Week, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday.
Beelen’s selection comes off her thrilling three-set victory over Kewa Nichols of then No. 15 TCU.
After winning the doubles point and the first two singles points on courts one and two, the Tigers dropped matches on courts six, three and five and stood at 3-3 with the Horned Frogs. The match came down to Beelen and Nichols on Court 4.
After dropping her first set 5-7, Beelen came back to win her second and third sets 7-5, 6-4, to clinch the victory for the Tigers. Beelen extended her streak to three, with two conference wins.
The No. 30 Tigers will be back in action Friday in Nashville, Tenn., to take on the No. 11 Vanderbilt Commodores. Auburn will return to the Plains to host No. 23 Kentucky on Sunday.
