Freshman Kyndall White’s walk-off home run to open the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Auburn softball a 5-4 victory over 15th-ranked Mississippi State and a split of the first two games of the series Tuesday at Jane B. Moore Field.

Auburn improved to 21-4 overall and 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Mississippi State fell to 22-5 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Auburn lost the first game of the doubleheader, 8-3, earlier in the day. The teams conclude the series with a 4 p.m. game today.

Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers rallied for three runs and won it on White’s first career home run.

Senior Brittany Day (5-1) earned the win in relief after throwing four innings without allowing a hit.

In a back-and-forth Game 1, Jessie Bailey gave the Bulldogs the lead for good in the sixth inning with a two-run homer.

The Bulldogs would tack on three insurance runs in the top of the sixth for the final 8-3 margin.

Anna Thompson took the loss to fall to 8-3.
