The Auburn softball team returns to action this weekend, hosting the War Eagle Classic beginning today at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Tigers (16-3) welcome Bowling Green (0-5), Georgia Southern (16-10), Lipscomb (5-8) and Tennessee Tech (8-12-1) to town for the three-day tournament.

Auburn opens play today with a 12:30 p.m. game against Bowling Green and follows that with a 3 p.m. game against Georgia Southern.

“We are excited about being back home and getting a chance to play in front of our fans,” Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. “We have some good teams coming in this weekend and it’s a challenge our team will have to be prepared for.”

Auburn is coming of a 14-game road swing that ended with a 7-3 victory over Samford on Wednesday night in Birmingham. The Tigers went 11-3 during that stretch.

Against the War Eagle Classic field, the Tigers are 4-2. Auburn is 2-0 against Tennessee Tech and is 1-1 against Lipscomb and Georgia Southern. Auburn will be playing Bowling Green for the first time.

Sunday will be a championship playoff format. Seeding will be based on each team’s record after day of the tournament. All games, except one on Sunday, will be at Jane B. Moore Field.
