CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The sixth-seeded Auburn men’s golf team is tied for eighth with a 3-under 281 after the NCAA East Regional first round at the par-71, 6,961-yard Council Fire Golf Club.
The top 10 teams in the 27-team field of the three-day, 54-hole tournament advance to the NCAA Championship.
Junior Glenn Northcutt fired a 4-under 67 to lead all Tigers and is currently tied for seventh individually.
Seniors Steven Groover (71) and Patton Kizzire (71) are tied for 46th, senior Gordon Strother (72) is tied for 60th and All-SEC senior Jay Moseley (75) tied for 107th.
Narrowly avoiding the brunt of a strong storm system passing through the Southeast, the Tigers played all 18 holes under a steady dose of light showers.
“Considering the conditions we played under,” said Griffin, “and Jay (Moseley) not counting with the way he has carried us this year, I am pleased that we shot 3-under.”
