We take you to the artists formerly known as the Matt Ryan All-Stars for Preview No. 63. Previews of all 65 BCS conference schools, plus Notre Dame and state schools, will be posted daily in no particular order. To view all previews, click here.

Remember in 1999, when Virginia Tech was probably a 7-4 or 8-3 team, but went to the national championship game because they had Michael Vick?

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 Boston College Eagles!

A roster filled with players not exactly on the major college level was made up for by a fantastic quarterback, and the Eagles very nearly crashed the BCS party.

This year, things don’t look good.

Only 10 starters are back from that team, including no one in the offensive backfield.

Stepping into Ryan’s very, very large shoes is senior Chris Crane, who threw a whopping four passes last season, completing two of them for 28 yards.

The leading returning rusher is converted-fullback James McCluskey, who rushed eight times for 14 yards after moving from linebacker last season.

The underwhelming receiving corps, who were single-handedly responsible for Ryan’s completion percentage being about 10 points lower than it should’ve been, returns largely intact.

And the offensive line has three starters returning, but they’re moving a lot of them around.

The defense, which ranked 19th in the country last season (although, if you’ve been paying attention, you probably know it’s not hard to rate highly in defense if you’ve been playing in the ACC since 2004), returns just four starters, including only one in the secondary.

The thing about Boston College has been for the last two decades that they’re only a mid-level team - at best - when it comes to talent, but the coaching has typically made up for what they lack. They’ll really need that coaching from Jeff Jagodzinski this year, as they shouldn’t lose any of the first five games but might not win any of the last seven.

Here’s the schedule:

Aug. 30: vs. Kent State (at Cleveland)
A random neutral site game if there ever was one.

Sept. 6: Georgia Tech
Considering the offensive problems both teams will be facing as the season kicks off, fans of aesthetic football should probably avert their eyes on this one.

Sept. 20: UCF
A potentially dangerous game, but the Eagles should be able to win it.

Sept. 27: Rhode Island
Ah, the annual “BC beats some Northeastern FCS school by far less than it actually should” game.

Oct. 4: at N.C. State
If the Eagles are planning on extending their eight-game bowl winning streak (I know, crazy right?) they’d better win this one, cause there are no highly-winnable games left.

Oct. 18: Virginia Tech
The Hokies get revenge for their collapse in Blacksburg (not that they didn’t already get it in the ACC Championship Game, which really delighted that huge crowd).

Oct. 25: at North Carolina
This one’s winnable if they play their cards right, but I like the Tar Heels this year.

Nov. 1: Clemson
The Tigers get revenge for blowing the game in Death Valley last year.

Nov. 8: Notre Dame
This one being at home gives the Eagles - who have a five-game winning streak over the Irish - a chance, but I think Notre Dame will be a lot better than some people think.

Nov. 15: at Florida State
The Eagles aren’t winning in Tallahassee this year.

Nov. 22: at Wake Forest
... or Winston-Salem.

Nov. 29: Maryland
Another game that being at home gives them a chance. This one’s a toss-up, and could actually decide a bowl game for both.

The schedule is screaming a 5-0 start and an 0-7 finish, but they could easily steal a win or two and get to a bowl game.
