Saturday reading

In case you’re looking for something to do since Auburn’s football game against Arkansas isn’t on TV this afternoon, I thought I’d provide you with some links to reading related to my column from this weekend.

  • You can read “How we became the United States of France,“ the Time magazine article I referenced, here.

  • The big meeting of the world’s finance chiefs this weekend is covered here and here.

  • This article delineates the global coordination of the efforts to deal with the worldwide financial meltdown.

  • The Scotsman had this story entitled, “New World Order: Global co-operation, nationalisation and state intervention—all in one day.“

  • Our own Washington Post asked, “The end of American capitalism?“

Almost lost in all this drama is another $25 billion giveaway from Uncle Sam, this time to American automakers. President Bush finalized the deal on Tuesday.

Quite a week in America, once the greatest capitalist country in the world.

  • The Auburn game was scheduled to be on pay-per-view TV but of those who watched it there I guess only Razorback fans consider it money well spent. This is becoming a “Woe Eagle” year for the Plainsmen who don’t seem to qualify as Tigers this season.
