Dear Brandon,
As with most good questions, there is more than one good answer. What do you mean by lake? Do you mean a body of fresh water or do you mean a land-locked body of water? What do you mean by biggest? Do you mean the volume of water or do you mean the surface area of the lake?
The largest lake in terms of surface area and volume in the United States is Lake Superior, one of the Great Lakes. Lake Superior reaches into three states Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota and into Canada. Lake Superior has a surface area of 31, 700 square miles! It’s volume of water is 2,904 cubic miles.
I wonder how many gallons that is? (Start here - There are 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot. There are 5280 x 5280 x 5280 cubic feet in a cubic mile. Send me an answer if you figure it out!)
There are two lakes on Earth that can be considered the biggest. The Caspian Sea has the largest surface area of any landlocked body of water. It’s over 4 times the size of Lake Superior at 143,200 square miles. But it is comprised of salt water. If you want to know the largest freshwater lake, that would be Lake Baikal in Russia. Lake Baikal is called the “Blue Eye of Siberia” and not only is it the lake with the greatest volume, it is also the world’s deepest and the world’s oldest lake! Its volume of water is greater then all the great lakes combined! But Lake Superior is still the largest fresh water lake in terms of surface area measuring in at 161% of Lake Baikal’s surface area.
Thanks for asking!

It was a hot summer morning in Georgia. Tom Tough guy was eating breakfast out on his porch. Every morning Tom ate five hundred pancakes with honey on them. He was just about to pop the last three cakes in his mouth when he heard a terrible sound. ‘’Whoa ! He yelled. ‘’That’s the biggest bee I’ve ever seen!” A big bee was flying toward him. It was buzzing so loudly that Tom had to cover his ears.
The bee was about the size of an elephant. Its stinger was really long. That bee was mad because Tom had used up all the honey in it’s hive. Tom tossed a glass of orange juice at the bee.
That would have drowned most bees. But it just made this one more mad.
The bee came closer and closer. ‘’ You won’t get me,’’ said Tom. Then he unfolded his big red napkin. He threw it over the bees head. Quick as a flash he tied the napkin’s edges in a knot. The bee could not see out of its blindfold!
Tom took his knife and chopped of the bee’s stinger. That made the bee upset so it gave up and flew home. Tom chopped up the stinger in little pieces and used it for his fire wood. People all over the south can still see the smoke from that bonfire.
