Coming Soon! NBC13HD Throws A Wedding 2008
Alicia Paul and Kevin Pughsley were married on NBC13HD November 26th, 2007.
Kevin paid Alicia a surprise visit at Auburn University where she still attends school. He offered to cook her dinner after her classes wrapped up for the day.
But when Alicia returned home that afternoon, what she found was as sweet as desert. Kevin had huge banners all over her home. It looked more like a high school football game than a living room. The banners read like a love story each noting a special moment from their relationship. Hiding behind the last banner was Alicia's future. Kevin dropped to one knee and asked the girl he'd loved for so long to be his bride.
How and when did the two of you meet?
We met in 2001, at Madison Central High School (Madison, MS). We passed each other in the hall. Both of us were running errands. He stopped me in the hall and introduced himself. Afterwards, as I continued walking, he started walking backwards to keep talking to me. From that point on, Kevin would always make it a point to find me, whether he was running an errand or taking a break. He went for weeks when he would stop by the concession stand during break to buy blow pops from me. It was so cute because he would always try so hard to start a conversation with me.
What was your first impression of each other?
Kevin: I had to do a double take because of how beautiful she was. The first thing that came to my mind was "That's a girl I could marry." From that moment on I tried everything I could to get to know her and get that chance.
Alicia: I thought Kevin was very funny when he would try to talk to me all the time. I went for a year before we actually were able to have a real conversation (Mostly because I had another boyfriend at the time.) When we were finally able to talk I thought he had the BEST smile and I thought he was the sweetest guy I had ever met.
How long was your courtship?
We had been dating for six and half years and engaged a little over a year.
Tell us about the engagement.
I was at Auburn in class. We had been outside all day working on a project. Kevin called me and said his football practice had been cancelled and he had driven to Auburn. He asked if it was ok if he cooked me dinner. After class I headed home. I opened the door expecting to see him cooking but he definitely wasn’t cooking. As soon as I opened the door I saw candles everywhere, rose petals all over the floor and our song playing in the background. In addition to that there were huge banners all through out the house. Each banner had something written on it marking the landmarks in our relationship (our first kiss, the first time we said I love you) I made my way through each one until I got to the last one which said "All of these moments in preparation for..." He had written tear here at the top of it. I tore through it and found him standing on the other side He got down on one knee and proposed. I was soooo excited and happy that I hardly said anything until he officially asked me to marry him. So of course I said YES.
What was it like when you found out you were the winning couple on NBC13 Throws a wedding?
We were both so excited. We had been praying that if this was meant for us then God would let it happen. We knew it was a huge financial burden lifted off of us and our families, but we didn't want to gt so wrapped up in the contest if it wasn't meant for us.
However through everything, God has shown us that this is meant for us and that he wants to bless us and we thank him and praise him for it.
Where will you live after you say I do?
With Kevin teaching and coaching in Calera and me probably working in downtown Birmingham, we will probably choose to live somewhere in the middle. We are really interested in living in Helena. We think it is such a beautiful town and think it might be a great place to get started.
